Battle of the Sexes

Instructions:

Game Overview:

Battle of the Sexes is a fun and risque game where two teams (men vs. women) race to complete outrageous, competitive tasks. Each challenge pits the teams against each other, with the first team to reach 10 points declared the winner.

Host Instructions:

  1. Set Up the Game Area: Ensure you have enough space for players to move around, as many challenges involve racing and physical activity. Arrange a central area for the challenges with enough space for both teams to compete side-by-side.

  2. Prepare Challenge Materials: Gather all props needed for the challenges and set them up according to each game’s requirements. For instance, set up balloons, cups, straws, blindfolds, etc., in easily accessible spots.

  3. Divide the Players into Teams: Divide players into two teams, typically men vs. women. Each team should have an equal number of players. If uneven, assign a guest referee or rotate players for different challenges.

  4. Explain the Rules: Gather everyone around and explain the game rules and how the points system works. Clarify the nature of the challenges to ensure everyone is comfortable and willing to participate.

  5. Determine the Order of Challenges: Use a list of 10-20 challenges and let teams know which ones they’ll be doing. The host can select them randomly or pre-plan the order. Challenges should be manageable and alternate between high-energy and slightly less intense ones to keep the pace varied and fun.

Game Rules:

  1. All Play, All Time: All challenges are head-to-head races between the two teams. Both teams compete at the same time to complete tasks, keeping the excitement high.

  2. No Hands Rule: If the challenge specifies “no hands,” players must comply. Challenges often involve creative use of bodies, mouths, or coordination, so hands must be kept out of play unless otherwise stated.

  3. Teamwork Matters: All players on a team must participate in each challenge. The more cohesive the team, the better the chances of winning.

  4. First to 10 Points Wins: Points are awarded to the first team to complete each challenge. The game continues until one team reaches 10 points, declared the overall winner.

  5. Safety First: Challenges should be completed safely. Any actions that cause discomfort or concern should be adjusted or substituted with a more comfortable alternative.

  6. Respect Boundaries: Participation is key, but respect each player’s comfort zone. No one should feel pressured to participate in anything they’re uncomfortable with. Alternative, less risque versions of challenges can be substituted on the fly if necessary.

  7. Host is the Judge: The host will act as the judge, timing challenges when necessary and determining the winning team for each challenge.

Game Setup:

  1. Challenge Area: Create a large enough space for physical challenges. If indoors, clear furniture that may obstruct movement. If outdoors, mark specific areas for each game.

  2. Props Station: Have a station or table for props that will be needed for each challenge, such as blindfolds, shot glasses, and straws. Ensure all props are easily accessible and that each challenge is ready to go.

  3. Scoring Board: Use a whiteboard, chalkboard, or poster to keep track of team points. Update scores visibly after each challenge to keep the competitive spirit alive.

  4. Challenge Queue: List out the challenges so everyone knows what’s coming next. This helps maintain flow and keeps excitement levels up.

  5. Audience/Referee Spot: If you have extra guests not participating, designate a spot for them to cheer on teams or help judge, especially in challenges requiring audience votes (like dance-offs).

Important Tips for Hosting:

  • Energy Management: Balance high-energy challenges with some that are less physically demanding to avoid fatigue.

  • Adaptability: Be ready to change or modify a challenge if it feels too difficult or is not working as planned. Keeping the game flowing is more important than strict adherence to each game’s original form.

  • Encouragement: Keep the energy positive and fun. Encourage laughter and team spirit to maintain the atmosphere.

  • Be Prepared for Messes: Some challenges may involve food or messy items. Have napkins, towels, and trash bins nearby for quick clean-ups.

By following these instructions and maintaining a fun, playful environment, your Battle of the Sexes game night is sure to be an unforgettable and exciting experience for everyone involved!
